Mouzaki, Athanasia
Athanasia Mouzaki obtained her General Certificates of Education from the Cambridge Board, UK, in 1979, and then studied for her Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc./Honors) in Biological Sciences (Major: Physiology, Specialization: Cellular Toxicology) at the University of Plymouth, UK. She graduated in 1983, and continued for a Master's degree (MSc.) in Biological Sciences (Immunology) at the University of Salford, UK. She graduated in 1985, and continued for a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Immunology at the Free University of Berlin, DE. She obtained her Ph.D. in 1988. She then worked for 3 years as a post-doctoral research assistant in the Dpt. of Molecular Biology, University of Geneva, CH, and then for 2 years as a postdoctoral research assistant and for 4 years as a Maître Assistante Professeur Privé in the Dpt. of Hematology, Medical School, University of Geneva, CH.
In 1995 she joined the Division of Hematology, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Patras, Greece where she remains till today. Her current post is Professor of Laboratory Hematology & Transfusion Medicine, and she’s also the Director of the Immunohematology Laboratory.
Her training and research interests are in basic and clinical immunology with emphasis on T-cells and cytokines and their functions and malfunctions in autoimmunity and transplantation. She is the recipient of 24 research grants and has published 103 papers.
